Aquilegia is native to Europe and known by several common names such as columbine, crowfoot and Granny's bonnet. It is known and appreciated for its spring blooms and beautiful basal leaves. Flowers are dove-like with a spreading bonnet-like appearance. Use in borders, rock gardens, cottage gardens, shade gardens, woodland gardens or in naturalized settings. Enjoy as a ground cover after bloom. Perfect choice for the Northeast since they will naturalize freely. USDA zone appropriate in all 3-8 zoned gardens.

Growing Instructions

Easily grown by following the basic planting directions. Performs well in average, medium moisture, well draining soil in full sun to partial shade. Drainage is most important.

Care Tip

Remove flower stalks after blooming to encourage re-blooming. Continue to maintain moisture level. The foliage will wither away during the summer months at which time you may remove any foliage that is left. Continue to water the plant to maintain moisture.
